The Ozark Honors Orchestra is OMI’s newest program, bringing together students in grades
7-12 from the Northwest Arkansas region and beyond. Students will have the opportunity
to work with professional musicians including professors from the University of Arkansas, rehearse as a full orchestra, receive sectionals, and present a culminating concert
that is free and open to the public.

Ozark Honors Orchestra

The inaugural Honors Orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Christopher Kelts of the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory.

7:00–9:00 PM – Full Orchestra Rehearsal

Saturday, Apr. 18

9:00–11:00 AM – Full Orchestra Rehearsal

11:00 AM–12:00 PM – String Sectionals with Coaches

11:00 AM–12:00 PM – Wind Lunch Break

12:00–1:00 PM – String Lunch Break

12:00–1:00 PM – Wind Sectionals with Coaches

1:00–2:00 PM – Wind Orchestral Technique Class (with Woodwind and Brass coaches)

1:00–2:00 PM – Strings-Only Rehearsal with Conductor

2:00–3:00 PM – All Students Visit with Local Colleges and Vendors

3:00–5:00 PM – Full Orchestra Rehearsal

Sunday, Apr. 19

1:00–2:30 PM – Full Orchestra Rehearsal

2:30–3:30 PM – Snack Break

3:30 PM – Concert (Free and Open to the Public)

Perform advanced symphony orchestra repertoire

Develop critical orchestral skills—including ensemble listening, balance, precision, and musical interpretation—through challenging, high-quality repertoire including the finale from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

Collaborate with talented students from other schools, building friendships and musical networks that extend beyond the academy.

Participation in the Ozark Honors Orchestra highlights musical excellence, commitment, and selective ensemble experience—an impressive addition to college, scholarship, and audition materials.

Audition Details:

Open to string and wind players, grades 7-12.

Auditions are FREE to submit

All auditions will be submitted via video.

Students must prepare two orchestral excerpts. Required orchestral excerpts can be found here
